What do you do when you discover that, not only do you have a small collection of Molas, but you also find some in your mother’s things and in your cousin’s things? For me, the answer is: quilt them! For those of you not familiar with Molas, they are cloth designs made by Panamanian Kuna indians, combining reverse appliqué and embroidery. Some of my molas already had “frames” on them, so I appliquéd them in place, while others had raw cloth edges, so I pieced them into the sections. I quilted each section, joined them together and attached a border. Finished, Dec. 28, 2015!
